Aries
initiative, courage, beginning
♈
Overview
**I am.** The pure beginning: impulse, the courage to go first, energy that asks no permission.
Mythology
Aries is linked to the myth of the Golden Ram, whose fleece became the object of Jason's quest. The ram itself was a divine creature sent to rescue Phrixus and Helle from sacrifice; after carrying them to safety, it was placed among the stars. In ancient Mesopotamia the spring equinox, once located in Aries, marked the start of the new year -- making the Ram the eternal symbol of renewal and the first impulse of creation.
Interpretation
Aries opens the zodiac with raw energy and the urge to act. It is a fire sign ruled by Mars, and its essence is the capacity to begin: to throw oneself into new experience without hesitation. Planets in Aries operate with directness and urgency, preferring action over deliberation. The shadow side is impatience and a tendency to abandon what has been started once the initial excitement fades.
