☽ Moon — Return
The lunar return is the monthly emotional reset that anchors our shifting tides of internal experience.
A Moon return occurs approximately every 27.3 days, marking the moment the transiting Moon returns to the exact degree and sign it occupied at the moment of your birth. In both Western and Vedic traditions, this event acts as a monthly 'personal birthday' for your inner life. Because the Moon governs instincts, subconscious habits, and immediate emotional needs, the return serves as a brief window to check the pulse of your domestic and emotional security. It acts as a psychic reboot, bringing up the themes that will occupy your internal landscape for the following month.
Unlike the slower outer planets, the Moon does not have a generational or life-phase cycle of squares and oppositions that span years; rather, its cycle is rhythmic and rapid. Every month, the Moon creates a series of aspects to your natal Moon—the opposition occurs at the mid-point (about 14 days after the return) and the squares occur at the first and last quarters (about 7 and 21 days after the return). These points represent small, daily-life crises or shifts in momentum. The squares represent moments of friction or necessary adjustment in your routine, while the opposition represents a period of peak externalization or objective awareness regarding your emotional needs.
